Why us

    Why choose HydroFlux

The engineers who invented it, a result measured in a working plant, and a design built to avoid what held other magnetic devices back.

    01 / Expertise

    The people behind HydroFlux

HydroFlux was invented by our own team: a UCLA engineering professor and a founder who has spent his career building medical technology and healthcare facilities. Our advisors have spent their careers designing, treating and maintaining cooling towers and water systems.

    Michael LombardiFounder and CEO
Michael founded HydroFlux and co-invented its patented design with Neil. He has spent his career building medical technology and healthcare facilities, as Chairman of Los Angeles Orthopaedic Hospital, Managing General Partner of Newport Lido Medical Center and Managing Member of Westside Medical Park. He also chaired the board of councilors of the USC School of Gerontology. Michael holds a BS in Finance and an MBA.
    Neil Morley, PhDChief Science Officer
Neil leads our research and development and co-invented HydroFlux with Michael. He is a professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at UCLA, where he earned his master's and PhD in Nuclear Engineering. At UCLA he is also Associate Director of the Center for Energy Science and Technology Advanced Research and a Senior Research Scientist at the Fusion Science and Technology Center.
Alex Liu, MD, MPHChief Strategy Officer and Vice President
Alex shapes our strategy. A physician, he ran his own medical practice for more than a decade and served as Medical Director at two accredited ambulatory surgery centers. He is an active surveyor for AAAHC, the healthcare accreditation body, and earned his MD and a Master of Public Health in Health Systems Management at Tulane.
    Gary HarbisonSenior Advisor
Gary has helped design many of today's cooling tower systems as Principal at HLG Engineering. He is a mechanical engineer from the University of Missouri-Columbia and a past president of the Golden Gate Chapter of ASHRAE, the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers.
    Robert CunninghamSenior Advisor
Robert founded and ran Chemisis, a regional water management firm serving refineries, steel mills, food manufacturers and HVAC systems. He is a NACE Certified Corrosion Specialist, certified by the USDA to develop and oversee HACCP plans, and today is a Vice President and Consultant at Arthur Freedman Associates. Robert holds a BS in Chemistry and an MBA from the University of Pittsburgh.
    Bruce SchaeferConsultant
Bruce has spent almost 50 years in the cooling tower industry, at Fluor Products, Ecodyne Cooling and Marley/SPX Cooling Tower Technologies. He has worked across construction, product management, sales and general management, and he specializes in maintaining, upgrading and retrofitting evaporative cooling systems.

    02 / Proven result

    Tested in a working plant

At LAX Terminal 5, iron in the chilled water system was reduced from 3.9 ppm to 0.51 ppm. HydroFlux was also selected for the 2022 U.S. Green Building Council California Net Zero Accelerator cohort.

03 / Compared with other magnets

    Why earlier devices fell short

Many magnetic devices sold for water treatment were never designed or tested for large building systems. Engineers are right to be skeptical, and we expect to be asked for measurements.

    04 / How we work

    How we work with you

    Your system first
We look at your pipe, filtration, flow and water data before proposing anything, and tell you plainly if HydroFlux isn't a fit.
    Measured on your site
We agree on success measures and record a baseline before installation, then report the results against it.
    Installed around your operations
The bracelet clamps onto suitable existing pipe while the system runs. Any pump, filter or pipe work is scoped with you first.
