    University & College Campuses

Campus HVAC systems span miles of pipe, many buildings, and decades of accumulated iron. HydroFlux helps existing filtration capture fine iron at selected points.

It adds no chemicals and works with your approved treatment program.

    01 / The challenge

Why campus loops are hard to keep clean

A campus plant feeds many buildings through one distribution network, so a fouling problem in the loop reaches all of them.

    Long distribution loops
Miles of steel pipe connect dozens of buildings on one chilled or hot water loop, and iron oxide builds up along all of it.
    Aging steel infrastructure
Much campus piping is decades old. It keeps shedding iron, which fouls coils, heat exchangers and filters across the network.
    Deferred maintenance budgets
Facilities teams are stretched. Chemical treatment needs monitoring, vendor visits and money that other campus work also needs.
    Sustainability mandates
Campus LEED, carbon-neutral and sustainability goals call for less chemical and water use.

    02 / The solution

    How HydroFlux helps campuses

HydroFlux helps fine iron gather for capture at selected filtration points. On suitable existing pipe, the bracelet can go on while the loop runs.

    At the central plant
Iron is aggregated at the plant, before it reaches building loops
    On the distribution loop
Particles grow large enough for standard filters to capture
    With your treatment program
Works with the approved chemistry and corrosion-control program
    Install on suitable pipe
The bracelet can go on while the loop runs. We review any pipe preparation first
    No bracelet power
The bracelet needs no electricity. Filters and pumps still need service

    03 / Sustainability

    Campus sustainability goals

HydroFlux participated in the 2022 USGBC Los Angeles Net Zero Accelerator cohort. Site teams must verify project-specific sustainability outcomes.

    Site-specific sustainability review
Project teams can evaluate water, maintenance, and treatment measures against their own program requirements.
    Reduced water consumption
A measured pilot can track makeup water and blowdown against the site baseline.
    No electricity
Passive magnets draw no power, which helps with carbon-neutral campus pledges.
    No chemicals added
HydroFlux operates beside the approved treatment program. The treatment team controls all chemistry changes.

    04 / Applications

Where it applies on a campus

Evaluate central plants, selected distribution points, and building systems with a site-specific iron assessment.

    • 01

      Central chiller plants

Protect primary chillers and heat exchangers serving the entire campus from iron fouling and scale buildup.

    • 02

      Distribution loop piping

Aggregate iron across miles of interconnected piping so particles are large enough for filters to capture at controlled points.

    • 03

      Building-level AHUs

Keep air handling unit coils clean across every building on the loop, maintaining comfort and heating and cooling capacity.

    • 04

      Campus cooling towers

Assess deposit behavior separately from iron fouling. The site water treatment team controls chemistry and operating changes.

    • 05

      Hot water heating loops

Prevent iron sludge accumulation in heating systems that serve residence halls, labs, and classroom buildings.

    • 06

      Research & lab cooling

Protect sensitive process cooling systems in research facilities where water quality directly impacts equipment reliability.

    07 / Questions

    Common questions

Can HydroFlux be installed on a large campus distribution loop?

HydroFlux can be evaluated at the central plant or selected distribution points. The assessment identifies a qualified loop and downstream capture point.

Does HydroFlux support LEED certification for campus buildings?

HydroFlux participated in the USGBC Los Angeles Net Zero Accelerator. The project team must verify any LEED credit or sustainability claim for the specific site.

Does HydroFlux require a system shutdown for installation on campus?

Usually not. On suitable existing pipe, it clamps on with no drain-down or shutdown, and campus operations carry on as normal. Some sites need pipe preparation first.

How much maintenance does a campus HydroFlux system require?

The bracelet has no moving parts and needs no electricity. Filters, strainers, pumps and the water treatment program still need their normal service.

Does HydroFlux replace chemical treatment programs on campus?

No. HydroFlux adds no chemicals and works alongside the approved water treatment and corrosion-control program.
